Earlier this year Mountain Bike Specialists was chosen as one of “America’s Best Bike Shops”! Then drawing upon that list Mountain Bike Specialists was then chosen as the Best Mountain Bike Shop in the United States at the Interbike Trade Show Awards Banquet. This year’s Interbike awards honor the best people, products, and companies for the year 2016. The announcements were made at a reception at Interbike in Las Vegas, NV.

To be chosen as Best Mountain Bike Shop the winners were determined by a three-step process;

First bike shops had to be selected as one of America’s Best Bike Shops which is completed by National Bicycle Dealers Association.

Secondly the entries were reviewed by a nominating panel comprised of Bicycle Retailer & Industry News (BRAIN) editorial staff, Interbike staff and independent judges who reviewed submissions. The panel determine the slate of 6 final candidates.

The third step was the open voting process. Links to online ballots were distributed through multiple channels including BRAIN and Interbike, one vote per person determined by IP address. We at MBS encouraged our customers to vote and they did—as we got the highest number of votes.

Before being considered as the Best Mountain Bike Shop a store must receive the America’s Best Bike Shops recognition. The bicycle shops were judged on their community outreach, advocacy outreach, overall professionalism, and industry involvement.

In addition to a stringent written evaluation, National Bicycle Dealers Association sent a “secret shopper” to Durango. The “secret shopper” reviewed the Mountain Bike Specialists website and response to an email inquiry, as well as critiqued a telephone conversation with the store. The cleanliness of the building was judged, along with the cleanliness of the bathrooms, the visual appearance of the store, the creativity of the displays, check out procedures, signage and background music. The employees were judged on their greeting, product knowledge, accessibility, responsiveness and welcoming attitudes. The final assessment included understanding the needs of the customer, listening skills, presentation skills, product knowledge, handling objectives, securing the sale and thanking the customers.

“Being recognized as one of “America’s Best Bike Shops” is an honor. Being named the Best Mountain Bike Shop in the country is a tribute to our community.We believe this award goes to our customers who have supported the store for more than 47 years. It’s a circle with a bike and the words “Durango” in an arc. Is this the city’s attempt to put “art” into the “smart” meters? – Jon

The city is putting beige parking-meter “hitches” that will replace those green upside-down U-shaped things bolted into the sidewalk. Most of the hitches will be put in place in March.

What you discovered is definitely related to parking. But not for cars. Meet the city’s new bike rack.
